In the Tech Support pages, we will look at what threats are out there that can affect you and your internet experience. This site is to be considered, by no means, complete and all-inclusive. It's meant to be a primer for self-help to give the average user a heads-up and resource to learn a little more on using the computer.
Ok, with that disclaimer out of the way, let's get down to business. First up, let's look at one of the most common areas of problems with computers.
Viruses:
What viruses are: Viruses are nasty little programs that can do damage to your computer in various ways. According to the commonly held definition a computer virus is a computer program written to alter the way a computer operates, without the permission or knowledge of the user, by hiding in other program files. A true virus does basically two things:
- Replicate itself
- Execute itself
Hoaxes:
Are you gullible? If you forward emails without doing a bit of research, you could be gullible and also a purveyor of the problems on the internet. What do I mean? It's all about receiving emails telling you to "forward this to everyone you know..." If you are forwarding them, you're contributing to clogging up inboxes - the scourge of email. How can you stop this? Simple: do some research.
